But that famous scoreline is the lead the Gunners take to Spain next Tuesday in the second leg of their European Cup semi-final.
It's all to play for. The last floodlit game at Highbury was an edgy, inelegant affair. Arsenal could have increased the lead but Villarreal deserved to keep the slender deficit. You wouldn't watch the Spanish club for fun - they defend as if they were playing in the Somme, not the Champions League - but few would deny their gutsy performance. Arsenal should still make their first European Cup final, but I wouldn't bet my house on it...
